Preparing to Raise Jungle Plants

Keeping plants in your home is a great way to liven up your environment. However, choosing to get the same boring flowers year after year can become dull. Instead, you may want to try adding some exotic flair to your collection by raising jungle plants. Jungle plants include those breeds that are not native to the United Kingdom. There are many options to choose from, and all require their own, unique care. However, here are some general rules for keeping jungle plants at home.

The first thing to remember is that all plants require sunlight to produce food and grow. So, it is important to place plants in an area that has access to natural light. A good rule of thumb is to place plants near the side of your house that faces south. This provides optimum sunlight filtration. However, keep in mind that some plants need more light than others.

If necessary, plants that require fewer rays of sunlight can be placed near a window facing east. This will give them access to light in the early part of the day. For plants that you wish to place away from a window, an incandescent light bulb can be a decent substitute for natural light. Just make sure you turn it off in the evenings to prevent over exposure.

Another important factor to note is that most jungle plants require relatively humid environments in order to thrive. To find out how humid your home is, you should invest in a simple humidity monitor. Then, you can adjust your house to suit your plants needs. Modifying the humidity may require a humidifier or dehumidifier. However, you can also help plants by increasing or decreasing the amount of water you spray on them.

Finally, you will need to ensure your plants are provided with an adequate temperature to suit their needs. If your house is too cool for a jungle plant, you can install extra heating devices or a simple heat lamp near your garden. Just be sure to lower the heat setting in the evenings to mimic the natural cooling of the night. Meanwhile, if your home is too warm, you will want to cool your plants by limiting sunlight exposure, lowering the thermostat, or installing a small cooling device.

Ultimately, the key to successfully raising jungle plants is to know each species unique needs. Doing your research will certainly pay off. By giving your plants optimal conditions to grow, you will soon have a pleasant jungle garden right in your own home.
