Golden Mimosa
The golden mimosa plant is a variety of acacia. Native to Africa,
this plant is now widely grown as a small, indoor tree. The golden
mimosa is of the evergreen type and has soft, feathery needles. The
needle leaves usually achieve a light green shade, which contrast nicely
with their deep brown stems. The golden mimosa receives its name from
its flowers. The plant produces small yellow flowers that appear like
small puffs. These appear in clusters and generally bloom in late
winter. However, they continue to grow for most of the year and provide
nearly constant color. The golden mimosa is also a very fragrant plant
known for its pleasing scent. In its natural habitat, the golden mimosa
will reach an impressive twenty feet in height. However, the plant is
very adaptable and will only grow as tall as you let it.

If well cared for, a golden mimosa can live for twenty years. When
potting this tree, note that it prefers fast-draining soil that is low
in organic components. The plant should be kept in an area will full
sunlight exposure as they enjoy abundant light. Golden mimosas also
appreciate warmer temperatures. Therefore, if keeping outside, you
should move them indoors during cooler months. When watering, keep in
mind that this plant likes things on the slightly drier side. Therefore,
you should allow a golden mimosa’s soil to dry between watering.
However, its need for humidity and leaf moisture means it should
probably be misted daily. When feeding, use a low nitrogen fertilizer,
which encourages flowering, and feed every three weeks.
